Only my second attempt at gig photography, it was a great night out on Saturday in weston-super-mare, where Decades, previously Hobbits, held a tribute to Donington festival. ... Took a little holiday in Exmouth recently, and took this one early morning while I was working on my next project on light. I was hoping for a glorious sunrise, however this was not to be. ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...
Just a couple of new images I've done recently. Wandering around Banwell and Weston trying to find inspiration for my assignments. I've also been working with the new photoshop software trying to practice HDR. ...

Just got my computer back, with a temporary hard drive, but luckily with all my photos. So to make up for missing it so much I've been practicing with photoshop techniques. I'm hoping to do a lot more over the coming week as I have a week off, but for starters how do you like my photo planet....

When I first started out I practiced taking shots by following a friend around who is quite a good kitesurfer. These were all taken in my early years, I was mostly using the automatic function of my camera but I did manage to get quite a few well composed ones, well at least I thought so for a first attempt! Since then I haven't been around many kite-surfers since moving away from Falmouth, but I have discovered a few kite-surfers ...

Black and white image of a small river and a boat out of water. Experimented with photoshop to convert the Raw file to black and white and to add a cracked effect.

Shot up a creek near sand bay, weston-super-mare, somerset

Canon 7D
Shot in Camera Raw and converted in elements 8

Pink flowers in a field

Edited in photoshop using a technique found on Redbuble to produce the Orton Effect.

Tall Ship

Taken in 2008 in Falmouth during the Tall Ships regatta. Shot in Raw and processed in Photoshop.

Lone Windmill

Converted to infrared using photoshop. The applied layers and a Guassian blur to create the Orton effect.

A single daffodil in may garden. taken on a tripod with my sigma macro lens.

Macro shot of a cactus plant, taken during a macro photography workshop. This image was taken in Falmouth. I was feeling a bit down having some how gotten chicken pox for the second time in my life. I was looking for inspiration for my AOP course and was looking for contrasts. I took this as I was looking for curves. It seemed full of them and after reviewing it on my laptop I experimented with photoshop and decided that it worked better in BW as it concentrated the image on the shapes ...

Autumn Leaf

Still life of a single daisy flower.
 ... 1/80 s at f/4.0 ISO 100

Focal Length 10.0mm

Church door, church in Weston super mare. Taken in colour and converted to mono in photoshop elements.

Josh Townshend playing in Thunderclap Newman Band at the farrington gurney hootenanny. Feb 27th. My first foray into gig photography. ... An experiment in still life. Most of my photos have been taken whilst I was out and about. I wanted to try something a little different. I really liked how the glass stands out from the background. Taken in Falmouth Harbour during the Tall Ships regatta, this was converted in to mono apart from the flag.
Similar to the vase, this was my attempts as something a little different. I love the reflection on the bottle.

These are four images that I chose to work on, based on the theme of Halloween. I really wanted to get the images to look as rough and raw as possible. I hoped it would really add to to the effect.

I cant remember when or where I took this image. However after being inspired by an article in Digital Photo I experimented with the mosaic tool in Photoshop elements. This image was taken in Banwell whilst I was waiting for a parade to pass. I liked the texture of the bricks and the cracked plaster.  I did two conversions, one which was straight black and white, the other I added a light tinted filter to warm it up a bit. I have posted the one with the filter. This was an early black and white shot. It was taken in Falmouth, out side the chain locker put. I liked the various reflections of the boats moored up. I used the manual settings and used Elements to covert it into black and white. Please forgive me if this is not a fusia, my mum told me it was and it was in her garden after all.
Anyway, after purchasing my first ever macro lens I set about taking photographs of everything in the garden, much to the amusement of our dog. This was my favorite. Again using my tripod I got in as close as I could. I didn't do much to it in photoshop afterwards, just made sure the brightness and contrast were ... After being inspired by an article in Digital Photo, I set out with my camera, tripod, remote shutter release and torch in hand to paint with light. This was the result. After a few practice runs and a lot of trial and error.

Post processing I lightened the sky in the background and some of the branches that weren't caught by the torch to add some depth and added a film grain filter. I was going for the old photo style.

Tree ... After being bought a new tripod and a few other toys I was looking forward to trying them out. Luckily for it was fireworks night soon and, having never taken photos of fireworks before I decided to give it a go. After doing some research in Digital Photo Magazine, online and in a few books I came up with some tips and off I went.

For my first attempt it went well enough. Although it did rain at one point, so ... These images we taken on a coast walk, in Falmouth, UK

A single block on a Tall ship, docked at Falmouth during the Tall ships festival.

Taken on a Canon 40D, edited with Photoshop Elements with a Gaussian blur.

Shot of a Tall ship, taken in 2008 in Falmouth. I edited the shot in photoshop to give in an almost dream like effect as I thought the colours would work with it. I think it makes the sunshine and the colours of the flag really bright.

Taken on a Canon 40d, with the aid of the local sail lofts rib, and edited in Photoshop elements

Low angle shot of a couple of blocks on the deck of a classic yacht, using the rope as a lead in line. Used a narrow depth of field to direct focus onto the blocks.

Shot on a canon 40D.

One of the very first shots I took after the purchase of my Canon SLR. It was taken entirely by accident and without much thought to the composition. I love the colours in this one, the bright blue sky and the clouds that seem to come at you. I was using the auto settings on the camera at the time, although looking back I'm still not sure if I would have changed any of the settings to camera chose that ...

The progression of time and the sea over the land.

I have been taking photographs on and off since 2007. I traveled for a while in the Caribbean and since returning to the UK I have started a distance learning course in the hope of improving my composition and technique. Any feedback is very much appreciated.
